Day 02 of production: Classes today continued making our props, as well as some classes beginning actual production. Everyone yesterday did such a good job that our storyboards are almost complete.
The 4th and 1st graders worked on getting POV shots. POV stands for “Point of View,” and is a type of shot used sometimes in the movies. Our “Point of View” today was from the eyes of the Line, who is traveling down the halls of the school, passing students as they walk to class. We used a push “dolly,” which is a piece of film equipment used to move the camera through space.

Today was the start of our filmmaking process here at Franklin Twp School. We started with pre-production in some of the 4th, 5th, 6th and Kindergarten classes. Since they were the first classes in this process, they were in charge of coming up with the script and storyboard of the film. Some of the classes also started making our props, which are actually our “characters” in the Dot and the Line.
We played this short video in some of the classes today. It is a good look at how important storyboarding and scripting is in the filmmaking process.
Behind the Scenes of “Fantastic Mr. Fox”
This is a great example of a film that uses the Stop Motion Animation technique, the same technique we will use in the production of our film. Note how many different jobs there are on set and how many people it takes to create just one simple shot.
